Mourinho Leaves Chelsea
Chelsea decided on Thursday to release Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho from his duties, blaming him for the club’s dramatic collapse this season. The club issued a statement that the decision to part ways with Mourinho was under mutual consent, later expressing the club’s gratitude to Mourinho’s great contribution since his return in the summer of 2013.
Chelsea’s sacking of Mourinho came after his ninth loss this season within 16 league games, the most recent being against 2-1leaders Leicester city and the past 0-1defeat against A.F.C. Bournemouth, which ranks high this season.
This is considered to be the first time the 52-year old Portuguese lost nine league games in one season, now facing catastrophic results, Chelsea ranks 16th in the table, with one point above the relegation places.
Guus Hiddink and Juande Ramos both have been touted as possible temporary successors taking over Mourinho’s place at Chelsea. The list of names that came up for who would permanently succeed Mourinho included : Pep Guardiola, current manager of Bayern Munich , Carlo Ancelotti former manager of Chelsea, Antonio Conte the Italian football manager, and Diego Simeone currently the manager of Spanish club Atlético de Madrid.
It is worth mentioning that Chelsea sacked Mourinho on the same day Pep Guardiola announced he would be leaving Bayern Munich, indicating that he will decide his next destination next week.
