FSA regiment captured officer and several soldiers in Daraa

Beirut, Asharq Al-Awsat The Free Syrian Army’s [FSA] “Al-Mutasim Billah Regiment” announced yesterday in the city of Daraa that it had captured an officer and six soldiers after “storming the base of the Mechanized 132nd  Brigade of the 5th Corps.  The operation was carried out under the supervision and organization of Staff Lieutenant Colonel Yasser al-Abbud, operations commander in the southern sector.”

In a video clip posted on YouTube, it said that seven (BMB) vehicles were destroyed and several of Al-Assad’s soldiers were killed and wounded”, adding that “the regiment’s elements withdrew and all of them returned after seizing some military weapons.”

The video clip taken at night shows several burning vehicles to the background of chants of “Allah is Great” by the regiment’s members who called what they carried out a “qualitative operation.”

High-ranking sources in the FSA confirmed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the operation did take place and pointed out that “more than one officer was captured in addition to several soldiers.”  They said “implementation of this operation was in response to the arrests of civilians in Daraa during the past two days which compelled us to retaliate with this operation and to prove that we are capable of carrying out similar operations in Daraa.”
